Dirigo Veterinary Services currently offers in home medical acupuncture, cold laser therapy, targeted pulsed electromagnetic field therapy, and pharmaceutical management of injury and illness.   

Medical Acupuncture is a method of stimulating specific points on the body  to activate internal self-healing processes.  Acupuncture points are usually located near nerves and vessels and follow myofascial cleavage planes.  Signals from the acupuncture point reach the spinal cord and brain to reduce pain, relax the mind, and improve organ function.

One of the main goals of a session is to get "buy in" from the patient.  This means that we aim to make it a pleasant experience that they look forward to.  Therefore we move at their pace and build on their successes.   The needles themselves may cause a mild sensation or tingling that is generally well tolerated.  

Cold laser therapy uses near infrared wavelengths of light (photobiomodulation) which go into the tissues and stimulate the cells.  This results in faster healing and reduction of  pain and inflammation by affecting blood flow and local metabolism.

A laser can be used to treat many conditions including arthritis, strains, sprains, wounds, and other soft tissue injuries.
